The Merchant's Yard

We used wedding gift vouchers for a meal and stay, and had a brilliant night. The staff were bright and friendly, we were very well looked after, and even had our own parking space. The accommodation was spot on. I had the Sunday roast platter and think it may be the nicest meal I’ve ever had out. Starting with the bread basket was a big mistake, though, as it was so filling I nearly had no room for pudding. Well worth the trip. I still haven’t stopped talking about it.

The team took my allergies seriously and made me feel safe and well cared for. They even made the bread basket half gluten-free and half regular without an extra charge, a really thoughtful touch. The bread and whipped butter were delicious, and the gluten-free sticky toffee pudding was incredible. We had a fantastic Sunday roast, served on a sharing board, with quality meat, great gravy, and perfectly cooked potatoes. The dining room is grand and spacious, with enough room between tables to relax. Friendly, attentive service all the way through, plus lovely tea and coffee. We’d happily return, perhaps to stay in one of the beautiful rooms.

I’ve been here several times for Sunday Roast and love the way the food is presented. The quality is very good, and the team are friendly and professional. It’s well worth a detour, and this lovely restaurant makes the beautiful village even better. Well done to the owners!

We ended up being the last table in on Xmas eve, but the meal and service were just as good as they’d have been for the first diners. We wondered if the staff might be worn out and the quality would slip, but everything was beautiful from start to finish. The food was hot and delicious, and the staff were friendly and fun. The 0% pink fizz was perfectly chilled and went so well with the meal. Thanks to everyone at the Merchants yard. We’ll definitely be back!
