Halford Hill is a low budget self catering place for a large group, and works well if you're not a "clean freak". Mrs Wilson was very friendly and helpful before and after our stay. When our Grandaughter left a treasured blanket behind, Mrs Wilson found it within 20 minutes of my call and posted it back to us. There were 15 of us across three generations for five nights. The rooms get four stars from me because there was space for everyone and a dining table large enough for us all to eat together. Three toilets, one with a bath and two with showers. The showers drain very slowly, though, so if several people shower one after another, they overflow. The mix of double beds, twins and bunks worked for our group, and the beds were comfortable and clean. The location is ideal, so five stars there. Llechwedd, with the slate mine, underground golf and Bounce Below, is an hour's drive away. Betwys y Coed, with the forest coaster and swallow falls, is 30 minutes away, as is Caernarvon. Llanberis has lakes, a waterfall and Snowdon, plus there's a good selection of shops, takeaways, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The whole house needs a thorough clean, redecoration and refurbishment. The kitchen is well equipped, but the oven needs a professional clean and the baking trays need replacing.

It's in a very good location and suits larger groups, but the place badly needs repairs and updating. It wasn't very clean, and I felt I had to clean the bannisters myself. Parking is limited. It would be ideal if they sorted the plumbing, replaced some carpets and gave it a deep clean.

The nearby lake was a big hit with adults and kids aged 2 to 17, and paddle boarding was great. The big house met our needs for a family holiday with 16 people, a baby and a dog, and it made a good base for days out.

We had an amazing 10 day stay with our big family 👪. The place was spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and the owners were lovely, friendly and helpful. Great location. I'd recommend it as the best place to stay in the Snowdonia area.

Great location, and it was warm, clean and really spacious. Just right for our friends' birthday party and a weekend hiking and climbing. I slept in the quiet, dark double room at the front on the top floor. Strange dreams!
