Nithsdale Hotel

The staff were the real highlight. Everyone was friendly, helpful and seemed genuinely happy at work. One person even nipped out to get me natural yoghurt for breakfast. They checked several times that we had everything we needed. We had one room downstairs for my elderly parents and another for us and the dog, who was welcome even in the dining room. Both rooms were clean, comfortable and modern, with toiletries. We just left the Nithsdale Hotel after a great stay. The beer garden out back was being updated and should look fantastic. This place is a gem, and I'd enthusiastically recommend it.

We only came for a meal while staying at nearby Sunny side Lodges, and the food was fantastic. The restaurant was very nice and the staff were amazing, so I'd have no hesitation recommending it if you're in the area. For two of us, £67 covered three courses, a pint, a latte and a diet coke, very reasonable. We're used to paying twice that for a similar setting at home.

I stayed several times between March and May. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the staff were attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. I'd come back again.

The friendly service and great food made this a good-value stop in just the right spot for our drive back down from Scotland's West Coast and a visit to the multiverse. We got some really sweet suggestions that added to our visit: the oldest Post Office, Carrot Top and the Community shop. I hadn't known about the Sanqaur design before, but now I do! The town felt a little run down, though the Glens we drove through on arrival and departure were wonderful. Our only minor issue was that the shower in our room needed some attention. Well worth a detour from the M74 or a stop after coming off the Androssan ferry.
