Ty Castell

I stayed two nights in Blodeuwedd, a double room near the town square. It was huge, with a large bathroom and bath fitted with a rainfall shower. Probably the biggest room I've had this year. The double bed looked like two queen beds pushed together, and you can feel the join between them. It was comfortable but firmer than I like, and all the pillows felt a bit firm too. A mix of firm and soft pillows would give guests a choice. The room was clean, fresh and warm, with a travel kettle, tea and coffee sachets, a small smart TV, and free WiFi. The remote worked, but I couldn't get YouTube to work. There's an iron outside the room if needed. The basin drained slowly, possibly because of the pop-up plug. I missed when booking that breakfast wasn't included. The owner later said this was due to the current situation, but past reviews mentioned food and drink being served a month earlier. I wondered if it was down to staffing or not wanting to hire extra people, since other places are serving breakfast. I went around the corner to Wetherspoons for a full breakfast and latte for £7. The place is close to the castle and nearby eateries, but it's across from a pub and the room isn't double-glazed. I could hear music and karaoke, especially on my first night, a Sunday, as well as noisy people walking by and the occasional boy racer. An apartment opposite is being renovated, and a bright scaffolding light shone through the window all night, so make sure the curtains are closed properly.
