Grace was a highlight of our stay. It’s a separate restaurant from the B&B, and the locally sourced, foraged seasonal cooking feels like fine dining with a homely touch. The evening menu costs more than some of the town pubs, but the food is on another level and very good value. We’d happily go back. Callander Meadows is right in the centre, in a beautiful building and a handy base for exploring the countryside. Josh and Lesley welcomed us warmly and told us about the area and their plans for the hotel and restaurant. Our room was roomy and comfortable, with a homely feel. Our dog was treated like part of the family, and the hearty breakfast got the day off to a great start.

We didn’t stay at Callander Meadows, but one meal there wasn’t enough. We fitted in a final visit before catching our bus home after eating there earlier in our trip. The hosts were warm and clearly love what they do. That care came through in the food, from the fresh, balanced flavours to the desserts, which were among the best we’ve had in a long while. The dishes felt light rather than heavy or covered in sauce, and the cooking seemed effortless while still showing plenty of creativity and skill. A lovely find in Callander, and we’ll return next time we’re here.

We turned up at Callander Meadows without a booking and asked if they had a table. The lovely couple who seemed to own the place kindly fitted us in and served us. While we waited for the mains, they brought complimentary experimental entrées and explained them in detail. The food was scrumptious, with real technique behind it. I’d go for the cheeseboard as dessert too. You can tell this is cooking done with passion.

Lesley gave us great ideas for cafés, waterfall walks and other things to see nearby, which was especially helpful since we only stayed one night on the way to Fort William. I booked the room from the US, and the whole process went smoothly. She was lovely and accommodating, and breakfast was delicious. A really pleasant introduction to Scottish hospitality.

I only found out they did dinner because a local friend suggested it. Glad we went: gorgeous Scottish food made with local and foraged ingredients, and served with real care and attention to detail. Amazing dinner.
