Callander Woods Holiday Park

The pod was clean, warm and had what we needed for a few days, with clear instructions. The toilets and shower block were clean and warm as well, though a bit of a walk away. The pull-out bed was really comfortable. I wish we’d slept on it the first night, since the double mattress was so thin I could feel the springs, and the wooden frame caught my legs when getting up. I didn’t sleep a wink that first night. Pod 2 was very close to the neighbouring pods, so there was no privacy. At night we could hear the other door closing and people talking. The view was okay, nothing special. It’s about a three-minute drive to Calander main street. One dog owner let their dog do its business and left it. Arriving in the dark was difficult. The parking space was narrow, between a tree and the pod, with no lighting, and reversing meant ending up partly on the grass. On a windy night, thin branches fell onto the car, but thankfully caused no damage. The sensor light above the pod door wasn’t working, so it was completely dark.

Good site with great amenities and a dog walk. We stayed overnight in our campervan, about a 20-minute walk from Callander.

We came in our motorhome for a nearby weekend event and the site worked perfectly. Getting in and setting up on a hardstanding pitch was easy, and staff were around whenever we needed help. It was clean, peaceful and had lovely views. After a 25-mile hike in the hills, the hot showers were especially welcome. Thanks for a lovely stay, we’ll be back.

We’ve made a few short motorhome visits to this well-run site. It has touring pitches, including some with full services, as well as lodges and static caravans. Entry is contactless using number plate recognition at the barrier, so there’s no need to go to reception, though we usually stop by for a chat. The facilities are modern and kept in good shape. There’s some Wi-Fi, but TV reception is poor.
