We spent three full days exploring nearby and enjoying the beautiful autumn colours. It rained a lot, but we were prepared, as they say, there’s no bad weather, only bad clothing. We enjoyed the walks so much that we’re thinking of making autumn trips to Scotland a regular thing. We arrived late on a cold October evening to a warm, cosy log cabin. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly about 99% of the time, and we had phone service too, though the signal was weak. There was no traffic noise, just pheasants in the morning. Before booking, we’d been concerned by one or two noise complaints, so we called the owner. They confirmed that only Leny lodge is near the road; the rest, including the log cabins, are set away from the main road.

The only thing I wasn’t happy with was the sanitary towel bags. There was just one large bin bag in the little slot instead of several small bags for disposing of products properly, so I used my baby’s nappy bags. There’s no recycling either, just one bin to take down to the small bin enclosure. Aside from that, Ferguson cabin was fantastic. It was spotless, and clearly cleaned very well, warm with the heaters on, spacious and nicely decorated. The beds were really comfortable and smelled amazing, with plenty of room to store clothes. The kitchen had plates, cutlery and everything for cooking, plus cleaning products such as washing liquid and kitchen spray. Food storage space was limited, but we managed fine. A highchair and playpen/cot were provided for our baby, and the cot was so clean that I had no concerns using them. The cabin has stunning views all around. Pheasants wander by, and we spotted deer and other animals from the porch. Sun loungers and a barbecue were provided, and smoking outside is allowed if you put cigarette ends in the ashtray. The shower was very good, and the toilet is in a separate room. There’s a little sign about wheelchair access, which may also be useful for people with limited mobility. A great, quiet weekend base with lots to do nearby, plus a lovely play park behind the cabins that my little one enjoyed. It felt like home away from home, and I can’t wait to return.
The cabins were cosy, well equipped and clean, with really comfortable beds. The views and surroundings felt magical, and the kids have a wonderful play area with a zip line and climbing frame.
You can stay self-catering in either cottages or log cabins, and the quality is good for reasonable prices. Most cabins have fantastic views, and there’s an excellent playground for children.
Barry was easy to deal with while booking and happy to answer all our questions in the weeks beforehand. Estate Manager Alan was just as helpful whenever we needed him. We booked four lodges, the two cottages and the gatehouse at the beautiful Leny Estate for over 30 guests travelling to Callander for our wedding at nearby Venachar Lochside in September 2017. Everyone loved it. The accommodation was high quality, comfortable, spacious, well furnished and set in spectacular surroundings. It worked perfectly for our different groups of family and friends, and was good value for such a large party. The big play area was a bonus for the children, and a cot and high chair were ready in our cottage as requested. After we got back to the North West of England, all our guests said they wanted to return. We’re already checking the calendar to find a time for another visit. I can’t thank Barry and Alan enough for making the stay so good.
