The White Stag

We came here in March and were keen to return while staying in Strathyre this week. We knew it was important to book ahead for food, but our email got no reply. When we arrived, we called and were told they couldn’t serve food in the bar on Sunday. We tried again during the week, got no answer, left a message, and nobody called us back. Such a shame, as we’d hoped to have a drink and food in the bar. It’s hard to rely on being able to eat there, since food so often isn’t available.

The room was clean and tidy, with tea, coffee and biscuits. If you run out, just ask the staff for more. A small wardrobe or table would have been useful. There’s parking behind the Inn, and the continental breakfast was more than enough, though a croissant or two would be nice. The fresh toast was very good. Dinner had plenty of choice, generous portions and reasonable prices. The two young women working in the restaurant were pleasant and friendly, with good customer service. The one thing that bothered us was hearing music from the kitchen below at 6am. The accommodation was okay overall.

A lovely landlady, excellent bartenders, and great service. It’s a beautiful pub with quality drinks. Thanks, guys, I’d definitely recommend it.

The lasagna was one of the nicest we’ve ever had, and the staff were lovely. We’d booked our meal a couple of weeks ahead while staying nearby, but they’d had a problem with their system. The young woman sorted everything out for us. We came back the next day for a drink, and the young barman was struggling with an issue that needed a key change. He was very apologetic and helpful. In the end, I got a free drink as well as the Caledonia Best pint I’d originally asked for, which was delicious. A brilliant pub. Book ahead for food, and it’s probably best to follow up with a phone call.
