Sandhill Tamar Orchard Barn

We found this a handy base for exploring in different directions each day, as it sits between the north and south. Tamar Orchard Barn is tucked into its own private garden within the grounds of Sandhill House, making it a very private rural escape. The kitchen is small but modern and extremely well equipped for its size, and the bathroom is finished to a high standard with hot water available quickly. The king-size bed was very comfortable. Even in the relatively cool weather, we sat outside most evenings. On the couple of nights we stayed in, the two armchairs were comfy, and there was a small dining table and chairs. Most evenings, the lovely, charming and placid Fudge, the dog, greeted us when we got back. Mary was a very friendly host and knew the local area well. We had a great stay.

The dog was a real issue for us. Their mastiff cross roamed freely around the grounds and didn’t like other dogs, so each time we left or came back to the barn, we had to text Mary to make sure it was indoors. We stayed for a week in July 2020. At first glance, everything seemed fine, but then we found cobwebs in the bedside lamps, behind the curtains and down the side of the wardrobe. None of the electrical items had been PAT tested, and the step outside the French doors was rotten and propped up with bits of slab.
