It’s good value, and we booked it at short notice when we couldn’t find another hotel during graduation. If you’re after somewhere cheap and cheerful, it’s a decent spot. The room is tiny, though, so getting out of bed takes some acrobatics. There were stains on the carpet, there’s no breakfast, and you enter using a keypad code. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good, and there were plenty of tea bags, a fan for hot weather, and enough outlets for phones and Kindles. The kitchen is well supplied for guests. It’s next to the Grafton Centre for breakfast, and under a 15-minute walk from the High Street.

The only good thing I can say is that it’s beside the main shopping centre. The landlord was incredibly rude and disgraceful. The shared kitchen downstairs was filthy and smelly, and the rooms were dirty and partly in disrepair. In the bathroom, tissue and a flannel were being used to block a hole under the sink. The rooms were stiflingly hot, the pillows very hard, and I couldn’t sleep at all because of the heat and noise from other guests. I felt rough the next day. I asked for a refund, and the landlord took offence, ignored me outright, and got angry. I’m not happy at all.

The shared kitchen is a lovely place to meet people. It’s very comfortable here, with a spacious room, private bathroom, heating, and clean bedding every time.

The room was clean and beautiful, and there was plenty of hot water. I checked in after 11 p.m. without any trouble using the unmanned check-in system.
