Holiday Inn Express Cambridge by IHG

We had a wonderful stay, and the service was what stood out most. Everyone was warm and attentive throughout. When our food was delayed, Jorgen kindly offered us a complimentary drink. It wasn’t the free drink itself that mattered so much as the gesture and his willingness to go the extra mile. He made us feel genuinely welcome, and moments like that really lift the experience. He deserves the recognition.

We’ve stayed here three times now for a Sunday night, even though we live only 17 miles away. The great price is hard to resist, and it’s such a relaxing night with excellent food and staff. Hanna, Ben and the rest of the employees make this our go-to destination. The reception team are professional and well presented, and you can see they’re happy and work well together. Rooms are clean and well presented. Food arrives hot from the kitchen, looks good on the plate and tastes excellent, with the kitchen staff delivering it with a smile.

The quiet, green surroundings made for a pleasant stay, and we booked late at an affordable price. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a comfortable balance between its kitchen or restaurant and the living spaces. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel in Cambridge City and am grateful for the positive experience. There are some things to consider. I understand this is a Holiday Inn Express, with basic and mid-level services rather than the amenities of four- or five-star hotels nearby. Still, the ground-floor rooms were noticeably cooler in winter than rooms on other floors. Temperature control was extremely limited, and you couldn’t set your own room above 25 degrees Celsius. Some rooms also had fewer amenities than I’d expect elsewhere. We didn’t get slippers, a safe, toothbrush or similar items, though they will provide a toothbrush or razor if you ask. The hotel is a bit far from the city centre on foot, which can add a lot to transport costs, though that may not matter if you like walking. Breakfast is very limited if it’s included with your stay. Meals bought for lunch or dinner, though, have a good chance of being nice and affordable. Room cleaning wasn’t acceptable to me, as there was very little difference before and after. You may need to request a deep clean each time so staff know what to do. I don’t like that so much depends on guests asking, and that the hotel lacks a systematic, holistic approach. Good luck!

Candice made our first Cambridge visit start so smoothly. She handled check-in, helped with parking and pointed us toward things to see. She also fixed my accidental twin single booking, moving us to a king room with late checkout and free drinks. We were there for a night with my wife and our puppy. The room was spotless, and honestly the best chain hotel room I’ve stayed in. Loved the bathroom and the shower, too. We had a great stay and have already recommended it to friends and family. Hopefully we’ll be back with my nephew, who’s keen to try the robot pancake machine.
