The mix of Cambridge’s history, beautiful town, and famous university makes it a place you have to see at least once in your life. It’s unique.

Robinson College has a lively social side, with plenty of clubs, societies, and events, and a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. Its gardens and red brick buildings give it a distinctive feel, especially beside the more traditional architecture elsewhere in the University of Cambridge. Founded in 1977, it’s among the university’s newest colleges. The modern design is matched by strong academic standards and good support for students. There’s a well-stocked library, comfortable accommodation, and a range of dining options too.

The location works especially well for chem eng students heading to the West Cambridge site. A bike makes the commute easy: ride through Burrell’s walk, cross Garret Hostel bridge via Garret Hostel Lane, and you’re at the market square area in about five minutes. The neighbours were friendly and diverse, mostly PhD students. Access is by digital card using your cam ID, and there’s a bike shed around the side. A bedder cleans the room and toilet and changes the linen twice a week. My ground-floor single room was spacious enough for two, with an ensuite bathroom, roomy shower and dressing area, and heated water. It had a single bed, large work area with a corner view, a couch, and a very big wardrobe and drawers. Being on the ground floor was probably best for getting to the gardens, though keep the windows locked. The shared kitchen serves eight and has two stoves, two ovens, a huge fridge, seating for up to twelve, a washing machine, and a dryer. The ground floor opens onto the courtyard, which seems ideal for a BBQ or garden party with 8-10 people. There are also a few wheelchair-friendly rooms and elevators.

The chapel is beautiful, and the building’s design and structure are amazing. It’s the newest college in Cambridge, and a wonderful place.

The garden is gorgeous, with a bridge, café, and restaurant. Robinson’s red brick exterior is its signature, and the chapel has a modern look with colourful glass decorations.
