The room itself was mostly fine, and the place was clean, with a big parking area and plenty of green space for dogs. But the bed was so badly sunken that I needed a pillow behind my lower back to fill the dip. I told staff the next day before heading to work, and when I got back, nothing had changed. The bath was tiny, about the size of a washing-up bowl. There also wasn't any breakfast at the hotel, despite the £7.50 breakfast advertising. Instead, you can buy a £7.50 voucher for £10 to spend at the service station next door, and you need to get it at check-in because the sign says no staff are on duty until 3pm. The room had its good points, but the worn bed and what seemed like a lack of interest from management or staff let it down.
I was there for one night with my puppy. The staff were lovely, and they even gave us dog treats when we checked in. Being able to bring a dog is a big plus, though it added £15 to the room price. The rooms feel dated, the walls are very thin, and the heating really needs an upgrade. Noise from the family next door was upsetting my dog, so I asked to switch rooms. The staff sorted it out without any trouble.
The reception was lovely, but the noise was awful. I could hear every bit of the couple in the next room, even though it only went on for about five minutes. The wall was moving so much that my glass of water on the headboard was spilling. They were talking at 6am the next morning, and it felt like they were in my room. You could hear anyone walking down the corridor as if my door were wide open.
I had warned them I would arrive late, but the 24-hour reception was empty. I had to call the central reservations team and wait for someone from reception to come over before we could check in. Even though the room was prepaid, they asked for a credit card and charged a penny, which delayed things further. I had also paid for breakfast, but got vouchers instead, usable at the attached road chief restaurants and only for 24 hours after issue. They said any unused amount would not be given back, so spending £2 of a £10-per-person voucher on coffee means losing the other £8. I won't be asking for breakfast there.
The room was simple, but clean, with a comfortable bed, extra pillows, and the basics I needed. There was no iron or ironing board, and no biscuits or other little morning extras. Staff were all friendly and made me feel welcome. Parking is free when you register your car, and there are good discounts at the service station. They also explained how to use the intercom at a different exit so I wouldn't get extra charges for staying on the Toll Road Motorway.
