The continental breakfast had a good range and was served at the table. We tried the full English one morning, and it was delicious and worth the extra cost. There was also a good selection for tea and coffee. The hotel is lovely and ideally placed next to the cathedral. Our room was clean and nicely laid out, and the shower was hot and powerful. Highly recommend.

Rob made the stay feel like home. He went out of his way to welcome us and make sure we enjoyed ourselves, and that’s what made our visit so special. My husband and I stayed at the Cathedral Gate Hotel last week, and it was a highlight of our England trip. The hotel is a gem, with a comfortable, clean room in a perfect location. Do yourself a favour and stay at the Cathedral Gate Hotel when you visit Canterbury. Number one in Canterbury!

The staff were fantastic, friendly and accommodating, and breakfast was delicious. The room was clean and cosy, and I was very happy with my stay. The Cathedral is literally next door, so it’s perfect for visiting. Go for an upper room if you want a view of the Cathedral, since buildings block it from the other rooms.

There were exposed beams everywhere, which showed off the building’s charm. The slight tilt of my room was oddly comforting too. I stayed just one night for work. Check-in and checkout were both quick and easy, and the man at reception was warm and a delight to chat with, though I’m sorry I didn’t get his name. The room had all I needed, including plenty of tea and coffee, and there was help-yourself water just outside reception. I didn’t have time for breakfast, so can’t comment on it. The bed was soft, though not too soft, even if I prefer a firm mattress. They provide ear plugs for local late-night deliveries, but I slept well anyway. A pleasant night’s sleep in a fantastic location. Thanks to the team @ Cathedral Gate. I’ll book again the next time work sends me to Canterbury.

This is a quirky place in a building from the 1400s, but it’s really only suitable for people who can manage stairs. There are lots of them, so I wouldn’t recommend it for wheelchair users or people with walkers. Street-facing rooms may be noisy, with drunken revellers, often local college students.
