Keynes College - University Of Kent

We won't be coming back. The room felt like a cell, with a tiny, restricted window and far too much heat. The bed was painfully hard. When we arrived, there was no nearby parking available. There was no hairdryer, we couldn't find the TV remote, and although there were two of us, the room had only one bedside table and no bedside lights, just the main overhead light. The students who live here don't seem to have a good environment.

The room and corridors were clean and tidy, and there was a kettle and cup. For the price, it was okay for a night or two, but it doesn't come with the usual hotel bits: no hairdryer, iron, or hand soap. The bed was the main problem. It felt like the springs had been worn out by the previous year's student occupant.

Breakfast was a real highlight: everything was cooked and seasoned just right. I even meant it as a compliment when I said I could tell they'd used fresh oil, though I got a funny look. A gull did make off with my bread, unfortunately. Check-in itself was easy, but other guests I met on the way to my block were trying to find theirs. The cubicle setup at Keynes gives you solid partitions and, for me, enough privacy with no noise issues. It's quite bare, though: coat hangers and a kettle were provided, but you'd need to bring a TV or bedside lamp. The wetroom smelled of cucumber, and the shower outlet was badly clogged with limescale. It wasn't a proper showerhead, and using it was a real struggle, one of the worst showers I've had in accommodation. There's a microwave at the end of the dorter, but nowhere nearby to buy food for it. The Coöp only opens while the university is in session.

We had a lovely weekend here. The staff were polite, service was quick, and breakfast was good. I'd recommend it.
