Pilgrims Hotel

The bed was a real highlight, and the staff were lovely and helpful. Breakfast was fine, though the continental selection was limited. The hotel is right in the city centre, close to the main attractions. It’s an old building, so you hear it creak when people walk around.

The room was small but comfortable, and the service was friendly. There’s no lift, so getting a large roller bag upstairs can be awkward. Breakfast was included and nice, though it was just a basic continental spread. The shower pressure was so strong that water sprayed around the bathroom through the half-glass screen, and I can see that being a nuisance for housekeeping. The bathroom could use some work. There’s parking at the nearby St Radigund parking lot, and the hotel can validate it for a discount. The location in central Canterbury is handy, and despite the things that need improvement, I’d stay again.

The receptionist we spoke to was very polite, and it’s an old building, but I’m not sure what the extra charge for a deluxe room got me. It was advertised as larger and with a walk-in shower, then the lovely receptionist explained that not every deluxe room has one. For the price, I also expected better condition: the bath enamel was damaged, there were cracked tiles, and some holes that could easily have been filled.

It’s right in the centre of Canterbury, which is a great location. The place was clean, though the room felt a bit on the small side. Breakfast is self-service and continental only. When I needed something, there weren’t any staff around to speak to.
