The Woolpack Hotel

We came in with our four dogs for morning coffee and breakfast, and ended up booking a roast dinner after the staff recommended a lovely river walk. They were so polite, helpful and accommodating, a real asset to the company. The Sunday roast was exceptional. We had lamb, so huge credit to the chefs. The pub and its decor were stunning, and the food and drinks menu felt well thought out. Thanks again to the staff and chef for lovely service. 100% recommend a Sunday like this!

The pub still has the atmosphere of a good old-fashioned Inn, and the other staff were lovely, helpful and polite. But we ordered four Sunday roasts, and the meat portions were very small on every one. This apparently used to be different. A large three-meat roast for £25 amounted to about 1.5 slices of chewy meat, which was very poor value. When we asked the generally grumpy manager or lead whether that was the correct portion, we got a grumpy yes. There are plenty of lovely local pubs doing great roasts for less, so we won’t be rushing back. Shame.

The bathrooms are tiny, but everything else was great. I stayed and ate here while on pilgrimage to Canterbury. It’s a very cozy place, and the owners have done an amazing job adding modern amenities to a medieval building.

The Woolpack was wonderfully welcoming to the dogs, and the staff were marvellous. We had lunch last Sunday, three of us, with a roast, a ploughman's and a fondue between us. Every meal was excellent, and the building itself is spectacular. Recommended!
