The room got warm and stuffy during our summer stay because there was no air conditioning. For a relatively modern hotel, the ventilation seemed inadequate, even if Wales rarely gets very hot. We also had an unexpected £100 fine from the hotel’s parking concessionaire several weeks after staying there in June. Parking was advertised as free, but guests had to register their number plate to avoid a fine. We weren’t told this at check-in and hadn’t noticed any signs. Trying to sort it out directly with the concessionaire was frustrating. They sent us in circles for over a month and gave us a broken appeal link. I eventually called the hotel directly, an expensive long distance call from the U.S. The guest services team turned things around right away. The staff member was incredibly polite and helpful, spoke to the parking company, got the fine cancelled within minutes and emailed screenshots confirming the concessionaire would withdraw the ticket. Their professionalism left me with a positive impression and exceeded my expectations.

We love Ibis, but this one didn’t measure up to the others we’ve stayed at. The carpets weren’t very clean, and the shower water was too warm. The receptionist checked it but said it wasn’t a safety risk, so they couldn’t move us to another room. It needs to be better.

The room was decent, clean and well equipped, with a comfortable bed. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and breakfast was good value.

The room was comfortable, and the staff were kind enough to lend me the right phone charger. They also pointed me to a good place to eat nearby. I was in Cardiff for Lana Del Rey's concert, and the accommodation itself was nice, though quite far from the city. You’ll need a car or Uber to get around.

Breakfast was better than we expected, with good sausages and bacon kept hot and replenished by the staff. The rooms could use a refurb, though for the price and a location at a services, they were about what you'd expect. The pool table was out of order, which was a shame for our group, and a wider choice of draught beer and cider would be welcome. We came over Easter for an Under 15 rugby tour in Cardiff, with eighteen 15-year-old players. The staff were really friendly and made our big group feel welcome, something that might not have happened at a city-centre hotel. They helped make it a great weekend.
