The stay was going really well until breakfast, which was a mess. We were shown to a table and offered tea and coffee, but nobody explained whether it was self service or if someone would take our order. After waiting for drinks that never came, we went to the counter. The selection was tiny for such a large hotel: the beans were cold, there was no bacon yet because it was still cooking, and the only eggs were scrambled. My partner found them inedible because they were so buttery. We were told bacon would be brought over, but it never arrived. The tea and coffee we’d ordered only turned up just as we were about to leave. Honestly, I’d have had a better breakfast at Greggs for less money. Such a shame, as the room was spacious and very clean, the amenities were excellent, and the huge bed was really comfortable. The hotel was modern and clean, and the spa was great. The reservations team and especially Bieby were outstanding, and the service he gave is why I’ve rebooked through him for August and will return. I just won’t pay extra for breakfast next time.

The staff were lovely and kept checking whether we wanted more tea. I came just for Afternoon Tea, and it was delicious. Everything tasted freshly made, with the sandwiches being a particular favourite. I’d definitely recommend it if you fancy a nice afternoon tea.

The lemon tart was the real highlight. I’m not usually into lemon desserts, but this one changed my mind: delicious and perfectly balanced. We had a three-course Sunday lunch, and the dishes were full of flavour, nicely presented and generous in size. The roast potatoes were a letdown, though. They tasted precooked and reheated instead of having the fresh, crispy texture you’d expect. VAT also wasn’t included in the price and was added to the bill. Still, it was a very enjoyable meal, with just the potatoes needing improvement.

Really nice rooms and friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast service was good, and it’s an easy walk into the city centre. I was gutted that I’d forgotten my swimming shorts and couldn’t try the spa. Hope I get to come back sometime.

I’ve been here twice with friends for spa weekends and can’t wait to come back. The location is great, the staff are helpful, and both the rooms and facilities are lovely. We’ve enjoyed the afternoon tea, the spa and the treatments.
