Premier Inn Cardiff City South

We had a good stay, though the bins weren't emptied after our second day. The vending machine was out of order, which was a shame as it would've been useful. Cleaning could be more thorough: tidy under the beds, dust the hairdryer and tea and coffee tray, wipe marks off the mirrors, and clean the skirting boards.

The reception guy was fantastic and had a good sense of humour. I think he was German. The cold drinks machine was out of order, and the room was dated, with bits coming loose here and there. Worse, there were grease marks on the headboard where people had been sitting up in bed. The linen was clean, though. It was quiet and I slept well, and the pub opposite served good food. Having a Premier Inn near where I was working was a bonus. I arrived just after 6pm and there were plenty of spaces in the car park. The hotel is in an industrial park, so the area can get busy. I'd give the room two stars, but the reception guy gets more.

We stayed for three days and the staff were polite and friendly, while check-in was quick and easy. The room was clean and comfortable, though too warm for me. I couldn't work out how to adjust the thermostat, and the thick duvet with no other bedding option made it hard to sleep. I didn't ask reception whether they could cool the room or find lighter bedding, so they might have been able to help. I also want to mention breakfast. Premier Inn breakfasts are now mostly help-yourself buffets, and unless you arrive just after something has been replenished, the food can be lukewarm at best. The bacon gets dry and rubbery, fried eggs sit in a thin layer of oil and turn greasy with solid yolks, and scrambled eggs become watery and tasteless. The continental options are only a little better: pancakes and muffins go stale after sitting out for guests. I know that's the Premier Inn way and we know what we're booking, but I'd much rather have breakfast cooked to order. We stayed at a Premier Inn in York in 2023 and had a Full English cooked to order, but that seems rare now.

I came with a friend for a weekend away and to finally visit Cardiff, and it was brilliant. I picked this Premier Inn because it offered free parking. The room was amazing, with air conditioning and a comfortable bed, and doing the check-in by myself for the first time was easy. I'll definitely come back.
