Rooms at The Angel

I stayed here while working nearby and had a quiet, comfortable room. The shower was good and I slept well, with everything I needed for a night. There are two flights of stairs to climb, which is a bit of a walk, but they do mention that on the website.

A friendly little hotel that’s dog friendly, too. My room was spacious and had what I needed for a few days away, including a hair dryer, iron, and the usual tea and coffee. Parking is very limited. We were lucky to find a place in the small free car park about a two-minute walk away.

The decor feels tired, and the shower room needs a revamp. Some floor tiles were broken or loose, and the silicone in the shower was mouldy. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The room was spacious, with a fair to good fit-out and a well-proportioned en-suite. The shower seemed to be at the end of a long run. I gave up waiting for warm water and ended up with a cold-to-warming shower; a local electric shower might work better. The wood laminate floor creaked a lot when moving around, though it is an old building. The room itself was clean and well presented, and for £70 it was fair value for a double. The lack of any food option limited its appeal, and I was surprised there was no dedicated parking or arrangement with the parking vendor opposite. There used to be a car park behind, but it’s now staff only. It’s a bit more like a place with a bar on limited hours than a hotel, with no food service and self-service rooms. Reception staff were friendly, but after being directed to the room, that was the last human contact. I’d use it again, but it felt a bit clinical, and could do with a little more effort to go a bit extra.
