A quiet night’s sleep, a really nice continental breakfast and epic watermelon. The staff were lovely, the room comfortable, and dogs got a warm welcome. Just remember there’s the usual extra charge for dogs, which wasn’t collected when we booked through Booking.Com. This is a brilliant stop when breaking up a journey south from Scotland. There’s also a great pub three minutes over the river, busy on Friday night, with good pub food and a warm welcome. Definitely recommend staying here.

After a winter day fishing the Eden, this is a great pub to warm up in. Good beers and that lovely old-fashioned pub atmosphere.

A quiet village setting with a local shop and PO, plenty of parking and well-kept grounds. It’s a great base for exploring and walking, with the train STN and famous Settle to Carlisle line nearby. The village Inn is beautiful, welcoming and comfortable, and our room was warm, clean and soundproof, with a comfortable bed. Dining and breakfast were great. Staff were friendly, attentive and professional.

We took a two-night Travelzoo deal. The hotel is stylishly finished and clean, and the pub food was fresh and tasty, though we found it pricier than we’re used to. Our room was comfortable and nicely done, but light from passing cars came through the window at night, and hallway light came under the door. Both kept me awake. The radiator wouldn’t turn on, so we were glad there was an electric heater. Breakfast was a nice continental spread, but we thought it could use some meat and more interesting cheeses. The coffee was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful overall, though one of the three we dealt with seemed less professional and sincere, shouting toward the kitchen before the door was closed and coming across as a bit rude. Check-in and check-out times were a touch late and early, respectively. Otherwise, well done Dukes head and Travelzoo too.

Loved the character of this old place. The room was great, with a good-sized bathroom, and we had a comfortable night. Enjoyed a great pint outside in the seating area, soaking up the sun. I’d definitely stay again.
