The Sycamore Tree

We tried to eat here three times and were turned away each time. On the first visit, the website said the cafe was open, but it was closed when we got there. The second time, they said there was a kitchen problem and they couldn’t serve any food, even when we offered to have a sandwich instead of something hot. On our third attempt I called at 11am to check they were open, but when we arrived, every table had a reservation notice and we were told they were all reserved from noon. Why wasn’t that mentioned on the phone? We eventually found food at a lovely little cafe across the road, which I’ll be giving five stars. If you’re planning to come here, call first to check they’re open, ask about any problems, and make sure there are tables available. Otherwise, you could make the trip for nothing and be turned away.

The turkey, cranberry and stuffing panini with mozzarella was the best I’ve ever had. My wife’s tuna jacket potato was delicious too. We stopped at this little cafe on our way to Hawick, and the prices were so low. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We’ll definitely call in again on the way back.

I’ve stopped here many times, mostly on motorbike outings. It’s a lovely little place, and the food is spot on 😊👌

The cafe presentation was lovely, and the Jake’s potato with prawns and Marie Rose sauce was really good. The potato was cooked perfectly, soft enough to melt in your mouth, and there were plenty of prawns. We didn’t use the hotel services. The cappuccino was a letdown, though, it tasted too watery. Still a nice experience overall.
