Balcary Bay Hotel

We only stopped in for coffee, but the staff made us feel very welcome. The hotel has wonderful sea views and sits close to the coastal path, so it seems well placed for walkers. The menu we saw looked appealing, and I can imagine it being a nice place to put your feet up and relax. We’ll probably come back another time.

On our holiday, my wife and I stopped at Balcary bay country house hotel for coffee and pastries. They were beautifully presented and very tasty, and the scenery was breathtaking. But nobody was at the desk when we arrived to welcome us or explain the parking rules, which we’d never encountered before. After we got home, a £100 fine arrived, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. We hadn’t been told we needed to fill in a form, or we would have done it. It was especially upsetting because this was our first holiday since my cancer recovery. I appealed without success and paid the fine. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel. They’ve since offered us a free meal, which was generous, but it does little to make up for the £60 fine when nobody was there to guide us. I’m very disappointed, and don’t usually write reviews like this.

The room opened onto the gardens, with patio doors leading down towards the bay, where we enjoyed a wild swim. It was spacious, bright, clean and welcoming. We arrived early for our surprise night away, but the room was already ready and we could check in. From the moment we arrived, everyone treated us warmly and courteously. The staff were professional and friendly, and every dish we had was delicious. Nothing to complain about, and we’ll definitely return for a longer stay.

We loved the quiet area and clean beach, and it was great that dogs were welcome. Our room, number 3, had an amazing ocean view. The managers and staff were incredible, and the food was spectacular. A wonderful stay, and we’ll definitely come back.
