After the owners’ reply, I’m no less disappointed. Calling my comments impertinent makes it sound as though honest feedback is being treated as disrespect. I’ve owned a hotel and helped run others, and I believe these views are informed. Previous guests raised similar things too, but they seem to have been wasted here. The room felt damp and cold, and even the biscuits seemed damp. I had to text each time I wanted the heating on, and it ran for only about ten minutes before being switched off. Since the radiators have thermostats, guests should be able to set the temperature themselves. The heating was turned on in response to my texts, not simply because it had got colder. The owner also commented on my clothes when I arrived. I was wearing shorts after a long drive, and I don’t see how that should affect the room temperature. Are guests meant to bring thermals and coats? The first problem came after our long journey, when we were told to leave our bags and go into the house to choose breakfast for the next day, while the owner talked at length. All we wanted then was to use the toilet. A previous guest had mentioned the same thing, and the guest in the room above us, who was pregnant, also needed the facilities but had to get through this unrequested introduction first. Hotels have toilets at reception, don’t make you choose breakfast straight away, and generally don’t keep you chatting. This is a guest house, not a hotel. The place does have a convenient location, it was clean, and the breakfast menu was good, though we had to choose the day before. Breakfast was restricted to 8-9, which doesn’t suit business guests needing an early start or holidaymakers hoping for a relaxed morning. The whole routine felt very regimented, like a military operation. The husband was very pleasant, but the wife needs to hear what guests are saying and consider changing a system just because it has been in place for 18 years. Noise from the room above was appalling. I don’t blame those guests, the soundproofing and construction are poor, and previous reviews had noted it. The owner could try spending a night in that room with guests upstairs to hear how much sound carries. I expect you’ll want the last word, so please keep replying if you like. The hosts were really welcoming and gave us plenty of useful tips about the area and places to eat. We had everything we needed at breakfast, and it was delicious. Our room was spotless, stylish and very comfortable, especially the beds. We had a lovely couple of nights at The Ginney and would happily recommend it. Howard and Stephanie Williams.

The guesthouse team were lovely and very pleasant, and the WiFi worked well enough for our daughter to use her iPad. We stayed on 8th and 9th of August in a nice family room, in a pleasant location. Breakfast offered plenty of options, from cereal to a full English, with your choices made the day before. We’ll definitely come back. Thanks, Carl Rhiannon and evelyn.

Daisy cottage has been a great base for my work trip. The owners are friendly and helpful, and I’ve enjoyed sitting on the little patio for breakfast with the sheep nearby. The cottage is lovely and comfortable. Getting onto the m6 has made my trips to the different offices easy, while the lanes and villages around here have been great for afternoon ebike rides. It’s only about a mile from national cycle route 7. Ullswater is a 15-minute drive away, and the A66 towards Keswick is one junction away on the m6. Scotland is a quick 30-40 minute trip up the motorway, so even a midnight elopement to gretna is easy. The choice between staying here and being stuck at the local Penrith travelodge is obvious. If I’m back in the area, I’d gladly stay again.

The countryside setting is lovely, with good walks and plenty of parking. Our room was comfortable and really clean, and the hosts made us feel very welcome. They were so friendly and nothing seemed like too much trouble. If we make it back to lakes, I know where we’ll stay. Thanks for a lovely break.
