The Cove

The site is in a good spot for day trips, because staying there all the time would cost a fortune. The caravan beds were comfortable, but the cleaning could have been much better. The pool was a nightmare. We turned up at 9am and were told it was for owners only, though I hadn’t seen that information anywhere. When we returned, we were warned it was only 26 degrees and might feel cold. It was freezing, and after two minutes we got out. It didn’t feel anywhere near 26 degrees, and the water in the top pool area looked really murky.

We had what we needed for our stay, and the caravan was comfortable. It was fairly clean, though a couple of big cobwebs had been missed, and there was dust on and behind the TV. I’d recommend it.

The site is well placed for getting to Brid, Filey and Scarborough, and we enjoyed our stay enough to return to Cayton Bay. Next time we’ll book an 8 berth. Ours was a two bedroom caravan for five, so we used the sofa bed. It wasn’t ideal, but easy enough to set up, though instructions would have helped. The van was tidy and clean, and the music from the bar was audible but not loud enough to disturb us, and it stopped early. There were a few practical annoyances. We paid to have the beds made, but the sofa bed’s quilt and pillows were left in a bag in the wardrobe without covers. There weren’t enough plug sockets, just one in each bedroom and four in the living room/kitchen, and the lighting was either fully on or pitch black. A nightlight would have helped the kids if they needed the toilet, and whoever slept on the sofa. The paths between vans were poorly lit, which made walking the dog at night difficult. We couldn’t always see the path and kept slipping off the edges, with a risk of twisting an ankle.

The caravan was nice, but it could have been cleaner. The entertainment team and the man at the booking hub were excellent and very helpful. Some of the other staff seemed like helping was too much trouble.
