The Farrier

The decor is beautiful and the staff were pleasant, but the meals were poor for such expensive prices. They seem to be aiming for an upmarket feel while squeezing everyone in, including noisy dogs. We left without dessert because we didn’t want any more disappointment on Valentine’s Day. The staff apologised and gave us a small discount, but I’m afraid we won’t be back.

We’ve been to The Farrier quite a few times, but feel standards have slipped. Our table of eight had pre-ordered 48 hours ahead, yet we still waited a while for starters after getting to the table late. Then the mains took over an hour, even though some people hadn’t had a starter. Given the advance order, the delay felt unjustified. Nobody really acknowledged it or apologised when serving us. A reason would have helped us feel better about the experience. Some of the food was lukewarm when it finally arrived. At premium prices, I expect the whole visit to be high standard, and this was below what it used to be. It’s a shame, since this had been our go to for a big occasion.

We were staying nearby over New Year, so this became our local bar and we went several times. New Year’s Eve was especially busy, which was great to see while hospitality is having a tough time. Even in the rush, staff were attentive, polite and friendly. They went out of their way to find us a table for two with comfortable chairs, placed just right to hear the saxophonist without being close to the speakers. The upstairs bar welcomes dogs, and the whole place was spotless, with lovely Christmas decorations and care in the details throughout. There’s a wide wine selection, plenty of cocktails and, from what I gathered in a conversation, a good range of quality champagne. We didn’t eat downstairs, but the food looked great. The high standards made our visits, and we’ll book the restaurant on our next holiday in the area.

We had a fabulous two night stay for a birthday and anniversary. Our beautiful Warhorse room had a bath, and we enjoyed a couple of very nice cocktails in the lovely cocktail bar. Dinner was lovely, and breakfast each morning was faultless. The staff were very attentive, and there’s a great outdoor seating area. The whole place was just wow. You can stay somewhere cheaper, but here you definitely get what you pay for.
