Three generations of our family, ten of us in all, spent a week here and loved the place. I really admire the owners for taking on the care of a Grade 1 listed building. A few floorboards creak, but everything was comfortable and well equipped. The older grandchildren loved the hair-raising swing in the field, and Chagford Lido was close enough for them to go every day. We'd have no hesitation recommending it for a family holiday. And the kitchen has the most over-engineered toaster we've ever seen.

There's direct access to Dartmoor from the end of the lane, and plenty of outdoor space for a big family. Inside, the old thatched farmhouse has quirky beams and low ceilings, with a large open kitchen and dining room. The cottages are full of old character and very comfortable. Highly recommended.

The views were beautiful, and we got to pick our own Christmas trees growing in the field. They cut them fresh for us, with all sizes and three varieties to choose from.

Set in a quiet backwater on Dartmoor near the lovely town of Chagford, this thatched Grade I listed building would suit you if you enjoy unusual, quirky places.

My family lived at collyhole farm in the 16th and 17th hundreds. My family tree includes local baptism records from St Michael's Church in chagford, and the registry says they had lived at hole farm for two or three generations. It's so amazing to find this place on Google Maps.
