Mill End Hotel

The food was a real highlight. Will's dinners were beautifully cooked and seasoned, from the aubergine and garlic soup to the fish and meat, and the desserts were delicious and nicely presented. I loved the smooth soup enough to take the recipe ingredients home and plan to make it. Breakfast had a big buffet plus a seemingly endless hot menu. I had Eggs Royale first, then tried the Florentine and became a convert. Each came with two eggs, so I asked for one after the first breakfast. My husband enjoyed his English cooked breakfast. We also had afternoon tea on our last day. The caramelised onion quiche stood out, the scones were light and airy, and the homemade cakes made all the difference. The portion sizes were just right after two courses at dinner. We came down from Telford for a three-day winter break at Mill End, and from the moment we walked in Brady welcomed us with a lovely smile and took us to the Tavy room. We had a lovely three days. It was spacious and beautiful, looking over the front garden. After settling in, we enjoyed our welcome drink. The twin bed was really comfortable, and the room had a walk-in wardrobe, fridge and shower over the bath in the en-suite. It was a treat to have Templespa hand wash, hair and body lotions, with the option to buy them at reception. I meant to get body lotion but got distracted. There was a good range of drinks, fresh bottles of water each day, milk in the fridge and homemade biscuits. Every interaction with the staff was lovely. They were all friendly and charming, and kept the log burner stocked in the cosy, beautifully furnished lounge. We're not dog lovers because I've been attacked by a dog both on and off a lead, but dogs seemed well catered for and behaved in public areas. When we left, we were given a goodbye bag with water, truffles, a pen and notepad. That was going above and beyond. A tremendous thank you to all the staff, seen and unseen, for a wonderful winter break.

The afternoon tea was delicious, and the friendly staff made the visit such a pleasant, relaxing treat. Highly recommend.

We've had another fantastic stay at Mill End Hotel, this time joined at the last minute by our daughter, her partner and our two-year-old granddaughter. Their Disneyland Paris holiday had been sadly cancelled by the tour operator. From my call the day before to ask about adding a room right through to the end of our stay, I can't thank the team enough for their welcome, thoughtfulness and customer service. We all had an amazing time. The rooms were perfect, the food was delicious, and the staff were so friendly. I'm looking forward to going back. Thank you so much to everyone at Mill End!

The food was amazing, and the service was lovely. It’s peaceful here, with beautiful walks right nearby, and dogs are welcome too. Chagford has some great little shops, cafes and delis, and you can follow the river through the woods to Fingle bridge or head to Castle Drago.
