We booked four rooms at the last minute after another booking was cancelled. Honestly, I’d have rather slept in a burning tent. Room 1 was shared, and ants were crawling all over the walls, counters and drawers. We gave up on staying in there. Room 2 was the best of the four, but the window had no handle and could simply be opened from outside. A cord was all that held it, and anyone could cut it with scissors. There were bugs in the cupboard and cups too, and the back hallway door only locked from the other side. Still, it was the best option we had. Room 3 had big mould patches and puddles on top of the fridge. There was a horrible smell, and the carpet seemed to be hiding a large damp patch in the floor. Water stains covered the area around the TV and other electronics. Room 7 had lots of mould under the sink and in the shower. Two people in our group felt light headed after spending a while in there. Someone also tried to get into the room during the night, which made us worry about safety in the building. In the other areas we could access, there were strange stains on doors, cracks and more water stains in the ceiling, mould in plug sockets, a very strong smell of smoke and, yes, more mould upstairs.
The place smelled awful, and locals don’t seem to have good things to say about it either. I’d rather stay in my car. Booking.com’s photos don’t look like the property now, they must have been taken when it was first built. The room was filthy, with blood on the back of the door and stains all over the walls. There was black mould around the bath. The shower curtain could stop water from getting out, but then people on the street could see you showering. There were subsidence cracks all over the property.
Six rooms share one toilet, the front door was left open all night, and the photos can’t be trusted. We booked two nights but left after just one because we had no other option. Room number one smelled strongly of mould, probably because the shower and dishwashing sink were right on the carpet. The duvet cover was stained, and we had to sleep with the window open to clear the air. The room faced the road, so there was no avoiding the noise. We asked for a fan but couldn’t get one. The address is 87 Tennyson, while Booking.com lists 86. I complained to the helpline three times. The man on the phone said we’d get a refund soon because they were dealing with an emergency. But someone named Hannah emailed saying they didn’t agree with anything I’d said. If so, I’m not sure why the man on the phone agreed we could leave and get a refund.
