The Golden Eagle

The room was clean, warm and tidy, and we slept well, waking up refreshed. It even had a little record player and a good, eclectic vinyl selection, which was a great idea and something I hadn’t seen before. We’d booked a room at a pub quite last minute for my wife and me, and were pleasantly surprised to be able to go up an hour early. Downstairs, the landlord and landlady gave us a warm welcome. We both had a great full English breakfast, including a vegetarian, gluten-free version for my wife. That hardly ever happens. Many thanks, we’ll be back.

We stayed at The Golden Eagle for our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday, and the room was beautiful, clean and comfortable. The record player and vinyl were a lovely touch. Breakfast was included and was one of the nicest cooked breakfasts we’ve had. The staff were friendly, and Martin and the dark-haired woman whose name I didn’t catch made us feel welcome. It’s ideally placed for the bars and restaurants, with only a short walk to the River. We’ll definitely stay again.

We stopped in for a quick pint while passing by. Nice beer, a good atmosphere and a really traditional feel. There are a couple of small screens for sport, but they don’t get in the way, and there’s another side of the pub with none if you prefer.

The room was lovely, and breakfast was freshly made and delicious. The pub has a cool interior and a great vibe, with welcoming, friendly staff. It’s well located, with parking available just across the road. I’d highly recommend it.
