The Queen at Chester Hotel

The rooms were spread out despite my request to keep them close. One was in the main hotel, while the other two were on floors 2 and 4 of the annexe. Reaching them meant walking about 100 yards along a corridor to a tiny lift that could fit only 2-3 people at a time. All three rooms were dirty and needed repairs. In the family room, the sofa bed arm was torn with its filling exposed, the double bed wasn't joined properly, and there was dust everywhere. My family said room 2 was extremely dusty, with mould and condensation on the windows. Room 3 was dusty too, with mould around the bath and empty drill holes in the walls and tiles. We were charged an extra £20 per room at check-in, and £15 for 24 hours of parking. A 4pm check-in felt very late. There isn't much positive to say, and you can find a lot better for less. This definitely isn't a 4 star hotel.

The staff we spoke with were polite, and the rest of the hotel had nice decor. We did see breakfast being served when we left, but nobody told us whether it was included or offered it as an add-on, so we assumed it wasn't an option. That brought the service down a little. Our room was dreadful for a 4 star hotel and felt more like a hostel. The toilet didn't flush properly, there was visible dirt and damage, and the floor creaked wherever you stepped. We could hear it creaking through the night. At least the bed was comfortable and gave us somewhere to sleep. My partner had booked it as a surprise, otherwise I would have found another hotel. The cleanliness and damage need urgent attention.

We enjoyed the stay, and the room was a good size with a bathroom and very comfortable beds. The location was great too. We didn't eat there because it seemed too expensive. There weren't enough tea bags or milk, and no biscuits. The room had no information about how to use the heating, and the towel rail didn't work. I also wasn't keen on the decor.

The breakfast buffet was super, served in a really relaxing room. We were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable we felt here. The rooms were very spacious and the bed was comfortable, and all the staff were helpful. The location is great, right across the road from the Train station.
