The garden at the Chichester Inn was pleasant, and the nachos looked great when they arrived. We’d come for a dog walk and a beer, then ordered chilli nachos and chips, but only one portion of chips turned up. Worse, I found a very long human hair mixed into the nachos on my second bite. Hair should be tied back and covered with a net. There’s no excuse for that, and I won’t eat here again.

The live group and log fire made for a great atmosphere. I slept well, and breakfast was an excellent cooked one. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Highly recommend it.

We’d definitely come back. The pub’s a lovely 250 year old building, and the rooms are furnished to suit it. Our room and ensuite were more than adequate for two nights. The owner and staff were welcoming, and the pub had a nice atmosphere. You could enjoy it there or retreat to your room, where the noise wasn’t much of a bother. I especially liked breakfast, with proper poached eggs and the like. The location is hard to beat, on the edge of the main area with easy access to sights and walks.

Last year this place was buzzing on Saturday night; on my visit this year it was dead. I come to the Chichester area for two weeks each year, so I’ve seen the difference. The afternoon server was a young woman who didn’t seem to know much about cask ale, perhaps understandably, but she did her best. The ale choice was okay. In the evening, a different set of staff had a much worse attitude and seemed more interested in chatting with their mates than answering customers’ questions. I’d give the young woman’s effort four stars and the evening two, so three overall.

The pub was open for a well attended live music event when I went, with a good crowd and some good beers. Check the opening hours before heading over, though. I’ve passed by a few times when it was closed at hours I’d have expected it to be open.
