We only stopped in for a drink at this lovely, brightly lit local pub, but the unusual tapas option on the menu changed our minds. Four small plates felt like a full meal and were very well priced. I’d have liked a bit more flat bread with the lamb kofta, but otherwise couldn’t fault it. We’ll be back for a full meal soon.

I’d go back and recommend it. The food was lovely, though service was a little slow and one meal was delayed. It was busy with Christmas parties, which may explain that. The main courses felt pricey, with ham, egg and chips at £16.95, but the children’s meals were a good size and cost £1 per course from 5pm to 7pm. I visited for an early dinner with my grandchildren.

This has been our village local since we moved here in 1991, and I’m glad to see it doing well while offering quality and good value. We had a superb New Year’s Eve meal from the £45 set menu, with a welcome glass of prosecco. Two of us paid £10 extra each for the Chateaubriand, cooked perfectly. Every dish was delicious, and despite how busy it was, the food came hot and service was good. Three courses for £45 felt like great value. With four extra bottles of wine, our bill came to £400 for five people.

Rebecca, Pete, and their team were welcoming and hospitable, and the service was on point for both me and my dog. It may be the most dog-friendly place we’ve stayed: there’s a dog menu, plenty of water stations, and dog beds available for rooms. We had dinner and breakfast, both fresh, nicely presented, and tasty. I recommend the salmon and eggs for brekkie. Our room had just about everything needed away from home: a comfortable bed, smart TV, DAB radio, coffee machine, fridge, local information, fan, and USB sockets. We used the map from the pub’s website to find a great one-hour circular walk through horse meadows and woods, with plenty of deer, squirrels, and rabbits. The sign above the front door says ‘A pub with rooms’, and that’s exactly what it is. It also has a charm and quaintness you don’t find in many ‘hotels’. Did I mention it’s dog friendly?
