Swinton Hotel

The staff made the stay feel welcoming, always offering help with a smile, and check-in was quick and easy. My room was very clean and comfortable, with housekeeping paying close attention to detail. I had a delightful stay at the Swinton Hotel and would recommend it for a pleasant, hassle-free break.

Getting to nearby attractions and conveniences was easy from Swinton hotel. The room was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated, with everything I needed. Staff were welcoming and attentive, and the on-site facilities, especially pool or restaurant, were excellent and better than I expected. I had a great stay and would happily return.

We were grateful to get a refund after explaining why we left, and the gentleman at the desk was understanding and apologetic. He said they would refund us despite the booking being nonrefundable, and they did. He was polite and professional throughout. I never got to try the garden or eat there, though, since my daughter and I checked out soon after arriving and booked a nearby Travelodge instead. I couldn't let her stay somewhere that felt unsafe, even though I'm usually fine with a cheap, basic hotel. The main reason I'd booked it was that it was about a 10 minute walk from King's Cross station. But the street and the hotel made us uneasy as two women travelling alone, and the whole street seemed sketchy. The lobby looked okay, if old fashioned, but smelled musty. We were told to hand in the key whenever we left and collect it on our return, which made us more uneasy. The stairs to the room were rickety and the stale smell continued. The room was tiny, though that alone wouldn't have bothered us, since we weren't planning to spend much time there. The furniture was worn, chipped, and old, and there were holes in the sheets and curtains. A large concrete area was right outside our window even though we weren't on the ground floor, which made us feel very unsafe. The bathroom was horrifying: the shower was directly over the toilet, with no partition and only a small drain in the middle of the room. There was more I could say about it, but that gives the idea. The hotel looked nothing like the pictures. It was by far the worst hotel I've stayed in, because of the place itself, not the staff, and I wouldn't recommend it. I don't like leaving such a harsh review, but people should know, especially since the photos don't match at all.

For London, I don't think you'll get better value. The place was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and everything worked. Fresh coffee and biscuits were put out each day. It was surprisingly quiet for London, and the front-of-house staff were polite. I felt safe, really appreciated the service, and recommend it 👌
