The owners were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Our clean, tidy room had everything we needed for a short stay, and breakfast was delicious.

We only had time for a quick drink while visiting the area, so didn't try the food, though it looked very good. The welcome was friendly and child friendly, and the atmosphere was really nice. Glad we stopped in.

Carrie and Edith made us feel right at home for a fabulous Sunday lunch with the family. The roasts were generous and delicious, and we loved that each came with its own specific gravy, which is hard to find at other pubs. They'd set out a top quality high chair for our 7mo son, along with baby cutlery so he could try some vegetables. Excellent service, highly recommend.

The owners were friendly in the few conversations we had, so we had no issue with them personally. Still, this was an awful stay from the start, and I rely on other people's experiences when booking, so want to give an accurate account. The photos on Booking.com don't reflect the property's current condition. Basic hospitality expectations like a welcoming arrival, clean rooms, fresh linen and working facilities weren't met. I'd recommend staying elsewhere. We pulled into the rear car park, which was surrounded by piles of rubbish and junk, including dustpans full of dog poo. We wondered if it was even open. From the front it looked closed too, though it was open, and when we opened the door the two resident dogs barked loudly. We're dog people, but it was unnerving and none of us wanted to open the door. Our rooms were in an outbuilding in the car park, so we had to pass the rubbish. Room 1 downstairs smelled stale and was extremely dated. Baking soda on the windowsill looked as though it had been there for years to deal with the smell, and clearly hadn't worked. The luggage rack barely held a bag. Linen and towels felt damp and smelled of mildew, the mattress had no support and felt like sleeping on jelly, there was no hand soap, the bath handle was broken off, and spiders and cobwebs were everywhere. Even the coffee sachets were out of date. Room 3 upstairs was somewhat better, with carpet and a decent shower, but its linen and towels also smelled awful and didn't feel fresh. None of us slept well and three of the four had back pain the next day. Dogs barked right outside the rooms at midnight. Overgrown vegetation by the downstairs entrance doors made them hard to close, though it had been cut back by the second day. We'd expected to eat and have drinks in the pub, but it was so uninviting we went elsewhere for everything and only came back to sleep. Breakfast came with one of the rooms, but none of us wanted to eat there, so we skipped it and can't comment on the food. The owners' personal washing was hanging right outside our room, and being greeted in a dressing gown on our last morning felt odd. The place could be lovely, a proper 'Cotswold' stay, with updating and some TLC.

There's a large car park at the back. This family owned place has a homely, relaxed feel, with friendly, very good service. The food really is home cooked, tasty and full of flavour. Plenty of reasons to come back! ☺️
