The owner and everyone else were friendly, and having electric hookups was a bonus. There was plenty of space, and the noise died down at night so we slept fine. The kids loved the tree swing, and seeing the chickens roam free around the main farmhouse, along with the cats and dogs. The dogs got lots of belly rubs. The disabled shower we used stayed cold the whole time. Maybe I didn't work it right, but after the hot sun a cold shower felt nice. A lovely time camping here, 10/10, we'll be back.

The smaller field seemed to draw a quieter crowd, like hikers and solo travellers, and there were several pitching options. The site was easy to find, with signs from the main road, and the owners were friendly, welcoming and helpful in explaining things. The location is great, and prices were good value. Paying per person worked out very reasonably for me travelling alone, and a very large bag of logs cost £10. You could pay by card for everything onsite. Facilities were generally clean, though the showers and hot taps often ran out of hot water. That was my only complaint. There are no hard standing parking spaces or proper tracks around the site, which could be tricky in wet weather, but luckily it was very dry.

Jean was welcoming and hospitable, and clearly looks after the place well. The bunkhouse is a little off the Hadrian's Wall path, but it was comfortable, clean and warm. Nights were quiet under dark skies, with only the curlews calling in the morning.

Jean was really welcoming and accommodating, and you can order a continental breakfast. The campsite is in a great spot about half a mile from Hadrian's Wall, with wonderful countryside views. We had planned to camp with the children while walking the wall, but the next day's nearly 20-mile walk and forecast rain changed our minds, so we booked a bunk room instead. It worked out well, with a shared lounge and kitchen containing a kettle, oven, microwave and fridge. Definitely worth a visit.

On arrival the staff helpfully explained what facilities were available, then we could choose where to pitch our tent. The scenery was beautiful, and there are lots of walking tracks. Hexham is only 15 minutes away. We'd definitely recommend it and use it again.
