I stayed at the The Wild Duck Inn last night and honestly didn’t want to leave. The room was gorgeous, beautifully done and felt special the moment we walked in. The bed was unbelievably comfortable too. Dinner was a highlight, every dish was spot on, and the service made it even better. George, the General Manager, was genuinely welcoming and clearly great at what he does. Sophie looked after us that evening and was friendly and so attentive. The whole night felt relaxed, and we felt really well looked after. The pub has a cosy, relaxed atmosphere with just enough buzz to feel special. It’s easily one of the nicest pubs I’ve been to. We’ll be back 100%, and I can’t recommend it enough.

The menu has plenty of variety, with elevated mains alongside a traditional bar menu, and the food was well executed with generous portions. Service was warm and friendly too. Max, Sophie and Andrea are gems. This beautiful pub has been lovingly restored by Country Creatures, yet it feels as if it’s always been here. It’s our local.

Sophie looked after us so thoughtfully throughout dinner, which was divine. I can’t recommend the steak and chips highly enough. The staff took such good care of us during our wonderful stay at The Wild Duck Inn. The rooms are gorgeous and spacious, with attention to detail that’s second to none. I can’t wait to return.

I’ve stayed in pubs all over the country, and the Wild Duck completely blew me away. That’s saying something from a self-confessed hotel and restaurant snob. When my taxi arrived, the building looked like the quintessential country pub, tucked away in the stunning English countryside, and I knew I was in for a treat. Check-in at the bar is a touch I love. The crowd had a lovely mix of ages, all in harmony, and the energy was unbelievable. Within seconds I felt sure the experience would be perfect. The legendary Max showed me to Room 11. His huge smile, calm manner and effortless friendliness meant a lot to me. The room was a stunning medium-category option, opening onto a beautiful private courtyard. Even at 7:30 PM, in the middle of a busy dinner service, he took the time to explain every detail. The room itself was jaw-dropping. For an independent countryside inn, the design and thought put into the guest experience could teach major luxury hotels around the world a lesson or two. I won’t spoil the surprises, it’s best to discover them yourself. Before dinner I had an incredible pint of cider in the pub’s main courtyard, which has a stunning atmosphere of its own. The food was exceptional. Ask Max when you visit, he’ll tell you how much I loved it. This review is for the phenomenal young staff. A place like this wouldn’t be possible without you. Thank you all for your hard work, dedication and lovely smiles. I’d return to the Wild Duck in a heartbeat.

The bedrooms were stylish, comfortable and beautifully finished, with interiors on another level. I didn’t want to leave. The rest of the place was just as impressive: divine interiors, thoughtfully designed, elegant and welcoming. We loved the devilled crab on toast, perfectly cooked pork loin, and even curry and chips. Every dish was full of flavour and clearly made with care. Max, Sophie and George Dean (the GM) went above and beyond with warm, attentive, genuinely welcoming service. That kind of care feels hard to find nowadays. After dinner we moved to the snug for drinks. It was a cosy, characterful way to end the evening. They even have a Bloody Mary stand! I’m already planning another visit with family and friends. 10/10 recommend.
