We had an exceptional evening meal, with everything freshly prepared, cooked really well and delicious. It was so good we went for three courses, and I’d rate every one of them highly. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating on our first visit, and the rural place felt wonderfully welcoming and dog-friendly. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, with all the amenities and a very comfortable bed. We slept like logs. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order and was exceptional too. It’s in Waddington, a picturesque village just a short drive or taxi ride from Clitheroe, with a large car park behind. It’s very popular, understandably, so I’d recommend reserving a room and booking a table. Can’t wait to return.

I only ate at the restaurant, so I can’t comment on the hotel. It has a cosy atmosphere, and both the steak sandwich and hot chocolate were excellent. The service was very friendly, though there were only two staff and they were overwhelmed at Saturday lunchtime. It was fully booked then, so make sure to book ahead. The restaurant is in the centre of a beautiful, picturesque village. Just bear in mind that if you sit outside, you’ll be right beside the main street, where there’s somewhat frequent traffic on a Saturday around noon.

We were travelling home from Scotland and made a really lovely overnight stop at The Higher Buck with our daughter and dogs. Our room was comfortable and well equipped, in the apartment next to the pub. We got in late on Saturday without having booked dinner, so there was no room in the pub or dining room, but we could eat outside our room with the dogs. The food was great, both mains and dessert, and we enjoyed sitting at the front and looking out at the village. The area seemed quite affluent, which helped put us at ease. The dogs were welcome at breakfast too, and even got a sausage each, such a nice touch. I’d like to explore the area more and would definitely stay here again.

The fish platter stood out, and breakfast was really good too, especially the coffee and smoked salmon. We had a family gathering of 12 across generations, and everything felt warm, personal and high quality. From the friendly welcome to the lovely bedrooms, our stay at the Higher Buck couldn’t have gone better.

The beef roast was delicious, and the service was just as lovely. I left my hat behind by accident, but Rebecca kindly posted it to my house. I was there for dinner during a weekend away. Amazing!
