The White Bull

We’ve been coming here as locals for over 30 years and have seen some pretty dire periods. Thankfully, the current team is putting in a lot of effort both front of house and in the kitchen. We’ve had many good evenings here over the past year or so, and the food is excellent now. It’s great to have somewhere local for a decent meal and a chat with the regulars. Keep it up.

The Baileys cream profiteroles were rich, indulgent and truly outstanding. We also had the Cajun chicken sandwich, which was full of flavour and cooked just right. We stopped for lunch at The White Bull in Gisburn, England, and had a fantastic time. Highly recommended!

We’d booked Sunday lunch the day before, while staying in gisburn for a few days. Just before the long drive back to Portsmouth, we were told they’d have plenty of food. But once we sat down, we found there was no beef or chicken, only ham and pie. They didn’t have soya milk for tea either. We left very disappointed and had to drive home hungry. Not a great ending to an otherwise fabulous break.

There’s a car park behind the pub, which was handy, and plenty of food and drink choices for us and the kids. Everything was served, presented and tasted great, with a real sense of care in the preparation. The gentleman running the bar and restaurant was hospitable, and the whole place felt well looked after. We came in for lunch not knowing what to expect, since the outside looked like a town pub. The food was lovely and fairly priced, not cheap, but worth what we got. We ended up staying for desserts and sole drinks, though that hadn’t been the plan. Inside was presented very nicely. In our casual clothes on the way back from the swimming pool, we felt a little underdressed, but nobody made us feel that way. It’s a pleasant place for a meal or a drink if you’re nearby, and we’d happily go again.
