The Green Dragon Inn

The beef was tender and delicious, and the vegetables came out crisp and hot. We finished with cheesecake and cappuccino, a lovely end to an excellent Sunday dinner. The logs burning in the fireplace made the room feel wonderfully charming. I’ll bring friends and family back.

My friend and I dropped in on a Sunday without expecting there’d be a table, but the staff went out of their way to fit us in. They were so polite, and the beautiful interior and mouseman furniture were just as lovely. A proper English pub. It’s refreshing to be served by people who really appreciate your custom. This place is an oasis in the growing desert of homogenised, identity-sapped pubs.

We hadn’t booked, and it was a busy Friday evening, but the Green Dragon team went out of their way to find us a table after we turned up at short notice. Our AirBnB host had recommended the place to my friends and me, and what a find. The food was sensational, the staff were wonderful, and the ambience was perfect. Sarah looked after us brilliantly and even kept the special pudding aside for dessert. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen made the visit special. We couldn’t recommend the Green Dragon more highly.

The pub was busy for a Monday, but although we hadn’t booked, they kindly fitted us in. I’d picked it at random while driving home from London. We were warmly welcomed, and the atmosphere was lovely. I had the surf and turf: a rib eye cooked perfectly medium rare, plus juicy, perfectly cooked prawns with lovely garlic butter. Honestly, it was the best steak I’ve ever had, and I’m fussy. The portions were huge. My husband really enjoyed his chicken Caesar salad, and my son had the chocolate raspberry tart, which I’d highly recommend.
