We had a really good meal here tonight. We booked the day before and weren’t sure what to expect, since we hadn’t been back since it changed hands. The place was spotless, and it was lovely seeing locals at the bar. Staff were friendly and attentive, too. I had the hare and hounds burger, and it was great. We’ll book again soon. I can’t comment on the bedrooms, as I haven’t stayed overnight.

The decor and atmosphere are gorgeous, and the staff are lovely even when it’s incredibly busy. Sundays are clearly popular, so you’ll probably need to book. The roast is beautiful for £18, with tasty, good-quality meat and plenty of fresh veg. You can add the gorgeous cauliflower cheese for extra. We’ve had Sunday lunch twice and tried the weekday menu a couple of times since the refurbishment, and every meal has been outstanding. We really can’t fault the place.

We live just nearby but don’t come in often. Most of the Christmas menu had sold out when we came for a Christmas Eve meal, but there were still lovely choices on both the Christmas and regular menus. The Korean chicken and salt and pepper wings were full of flavour, though very hot and spicy. I had the moist, succulent salmon wellington, and my husband had a great big fish and chips. We couldn’t manage pudding. The pub was packed, and it’s great to see a local pub and restaurant thriving in difficult times. We’ll be back. We’re neighbours, actually. Merry Christmas 🎄

The mains were a real letdown after such great starters. My friend and I loved those, and they really set the mood, almost like a teaser. The chicken burger had no taste, and the sausage and mash was piping hot in some spots but only partly warm elsewhere. The staff were lovely, and the beer was cold and refreshing.

The adult pub food was nice, but part of our order was wrong. The children’s pasta was a letdown and didn’t match the menu. Staff need to be ready to hear feedback when they ask for it. I was a bit negative about some things, but I also gave compliments. Hands on hips and not knowing the menu was disappointing. Kind regards.
