West Point Hotel Bed & Breakfast

The room and setting were beautiful, but the owner's behaviour spoiled the stay. After a tough night, we came down early for a simple breakfast of eggs, beans and toast. The food was poor quality, she forgot the eggs, didn't offer water and showed no concern for our comfort. Then she aggressively told us to “get out before 10am or I’ll charge you,” as if we were intruders, not paying guests. I've travelled extensively around the UK and Europe and stayed in countless places, but I've never met anyone in hospitality so shockingly rude and disrespectful as the woman claiming to own this property.

The attic room had lovely rooms and beautiful views. The small hotel is cozy, and it's a five-minute walk from the beach. Breakfast was a lovely full English, served with good service. It was a bit cold during a rainy night, but we were allowed to turn on the heating the next night.

The price was fair, and there was nothing to complain about in the service itself. Still, the hosts didn't make us feel especially welcome or cared for. When my mum woke up dizzy and unwell, we politely asked whether we could check out a couple of hours late so she could rest before we continued our journey. We were willing to pay extra, but the only option offered was the full day's rate of £128, even though rooms still appeared available on Booking.com and their own website. There was no flexibility or empathy, just business. I understand some places don't offer late check-out, and that's their right. I also understand they needed us to leave so they could clean up. But with a guest feeling ill and asking politely for a little extra time, even offering to pay, the flat refusal made it feel like a transaction: pay the full rent. I work in the hotel field and still think there could have been a discussion. We left with a polite smile, but didn't feel looked after.

The rooms were spacious, clean and airy, and breakfast was lovely. It was our first stay at this excellent B&B, and I think it deserves a higher rating. Jan and Peter were very helpful and friendly hosts. We're looking forward to visiting again. Thank you, Jan and Peter.
