Getting to the farm means driving several miles on single track roads, as the setting is very rural. Inside, the central heating kept the whole cottage warm, and plenty of wood was supplied for the burner, which we appreciated over New Year. We stayed in “The Barn”, a spacious holiday cottage with an open plan main area: a big lounge with four sofas, a TV and wood burner, then a dining space with a large table beside the kitchen. The bedrooms have double or single beds, though king size beds would have been nicer. The upstairs floorboards creaked quite a bit, so you could hear people moving around.

The house creaks, so it won't suit light sleepers. The heating tripped during a chilly summer weekend and stopped working. My elderly mother in law couldn't cope with the cold, and after three days we had to send her home. We later found out there was a simple button we could have pressed to reset it, but we wish someone had told us sooner. We also asked for hot water bottles and heaters, but neither was provided. There wasn't much empathy for an elderly guest.

The gardens were lovely and the views beautiful. The house was spotless and had everything we could possibly need. We had a fantastic time and didn't want to leave.

We stayed just one night, but it was a beautiful place overlooking a wonderful landscape. Such a good spot to recharge. I only wish we could have stayed a bit longer.

Fantastic views, and a lovely place to stay. Just be ready for the two mile approach along a single lane.
