It’s a beautiful, quaint hotel in a nice location, but our stay was underwhelming. On a hot summer night, we came back and were told we couldn’t sit outside with our drinks because a private wedding was being held. We should have been warned, or some outdoor space should have been kept for paying overnight guests. We called down for a bottle of wine costing 40, but after 40 minutes it hadn’t arrived. My partner went to the bar and found they hadn’t even acknowledged the order. They apologized and said they were very busy. It felt like overnight guests came second to the wedding party. Breakfast was mostly cold, with an undercooked sausage, fatty bacon and what they called scrambled eggs, which was yellow slop. At checkout they tried to charge us for two bottles of wine when we’d only had one.

I enjoy the ambience and the staff, and the music stays unobtrusive when I’m trying to work. My stays are always okay, and I find the place easy to recommend. Some guests have told me reception can be short staffed. Maybe having someone at the door would improve their experience.

We stayed one night and can’t fault the place. Our room was spotless and high quality, and the whole hotel is decorated to a high standard. The staff were pleasant, friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner in the lounge bar, where the food was excellent and there was plenty on the plate. Sitting by the fire was cosy and relaxing, and the cocktails were delicious. We’d highly recommend it and will definitely stay again.

The beds were super comfy and breakfast was amazing. Bedrooms are roomy, nicely decorated, and all beverages are catered for. It’s a fab hotel with clean, comfortable surroundings. Because the building is old and the windows are old, they provide earplugs. The windows aren’t draughty, but it can get noisy when staff arrive and talk, around 7 am. That’s fine for early risers, but use the earplugs if you want a lie in. I appreciated that they’d thought of this and tried to sort it out. The town wasn’t so good, but the hotel’s brilliant if you’re out and about.

Our wedding at the Lion & Swan was on 25th October, and it was truly five stars. After being engaged for eight years and looking at so many venues, we came across The Lion & Swan by chance. As soon as we viewed it, we knew it was what we’d been looking for. Liam was great throughout the planning, always attentive and ready to help. The day went brilliantly and smoothly. The venue is stunning, even more so with the wedding decor, and the food was delicious. Downstairs at Radleys made a perfect evening reception, with a brilliant party atmosphere. Guests who stayed at the venue also said their bedrooms were lovely and breakfast was nice. We loved having everything for our special day under one roof and wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you so much, Liam, for all your help and support. Hannah & Dan x
