We stopped for drinks and lunch after walking with the dogs. It was nice to find clean bowls and fresh water for them, and the building's exterior is inviting. The staff were very friendly too. Sadly, that's where the good review ends. The food was dreadful. The fried fish was dark, so perhaps the fryer oil needs changing. The Crown Inn somehow served triple-cooked chips that were pale and raw in the middle. The steak and ale pie was almost meat-free and tasteless, and presentation didn't seem high on the kitchen's agenda. We swapped the pie for a chicken, cheese and bacon baguette. The bread was grilled and burnt at the edges, and there wasn't much chicken in the filling. It was a very poor offering for £14.95, though the fries were nice. If they had a chef making the food instead of a cook doing the basics poorly, it could be worth a visit.

We'd never really been out that way before, but this was our second visit in two months. It's cosy, nicely decorated, dog friendly, and the food and drinks are fab. Just what you want after a good walk in the area!

We stayed for two nights just before Christmas. The vegetarian food was excellent, fresh and generous, and the bar and dining area had a great atmosphere. The standard room was a little small, but clean and well equipped. The shower was excellent, and there were thoughtful extras, including plenty of tea and coffee and fresh milk in the fridge.

I visit Coniston a few times a year and always pop into the Crown. It’s arguably the best pub in the village, with lovely decor and staff who are welcoming and friendly. I've stayed in the rooms two or three times, and they've always been beautiful and clean, with some nice views. Breakfast has always been good, and nothing seems too much trouble.

We stayed here while walking the Cumbria Way, and the location was lovely. The room was spacious and comfortable, and breakfast was really good. Dinner was lovely too, especially the starters and dessert, though the steak and ale pie we had for our mains was a bit overdone and didn't have much filling. We'd definitely stay here again.
