The decor was lovely, especially in the bathroom. It was a busy, warm and friendly pub, with classic pub food and lots of appealing local beers on tap. Even with only one person serving and one cooking, the staff handled the crowd really well. We had a lovely meal.

The fish looked huge, but most of it was batter, with a small, dry piece of fish inside. We ordered two fish and chips and they arrived very quickly. It was a busy evening, but only indoor diners were being served. We paid top price for two lovely local traditional ales, yet the measures were only 7/8 of a pint, which made us feel farmed rather than served. While we were eating, they put the next booking's start time on our table. A staff member asked about dessert, but we declined because the mains were poor. We still had plenty of our expensive drinks left when another staff member told us to move, pointing out that the next booking time had passed, even though that time had passed while we were still eating. Sharp practice?

We had a relaxed family meal for ten and never felt hurried to give up the table. The atmosphere was lovely, and the waiting staff were friendly and efficient. We'd booked at short notice, so I was glad they could fit us in. We shared delicious bar snack nibbles to start, then had a good mix of dishes. The burgers were huge, the roast dinner excellent, and the sausage and mash generous and delicious. My fish pie was fantastic, packed with fish chunks, and the steak pie had plenty of good-quality meat. Desserts were generous too, and delicious. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality, so I thought it was good value. I'd been once before and would come again.

On our way back from trying the corridor route, we stopped at the pub. The beef burger was thick and gorgeous, and the desserts we tried were amazing too. A happy evening.

We had a lovely long weekend here and enjoyed our stay. The rooms were characterful and cosy, and good value, with a great spot for walks. Breakfast was fabulous, the food excellent, the choice of drinks good, and the service great. Everyone was friendly. We'd definitely come back and hope to return soon!
