We’ve just had a lovely few days at Swallowdale. The wood burning stove was a treat, and the house was clean, cosy, spacious and very well equipped. There’s a huge parking area at the front, and the main bedroom has a smart en suite with a powerful shower. It’s easy to get to walks by or near Coniston Water and the pub, and it’s well placed for driving around the Lakes.

The house was spotlessly clean, and the welcome pack was a nice surprise: washing up liquid, a dishcloth, a sponge and enough dishwasher tablets for a week. It’s well equipped too, with a washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, one en suite, a bathroom and a downstairs cloakroom. There’s a log burner, and the central heating is very efficient with Hive control. The decor and furnishings are dated, though the spacious modern bathroom and lovely shower over the bath are exceptions. We still had a fabulous week and would definitely book again.

A total disappointment, and I felt ripped off by the high Christmas price. Sykes oversold it: the beds were awful and the lounge wasn't clean. Torver is a hamlet, not the village Sykes described.

A good central place to stay. I’d have given it five stars if the floorboards hadn’t been noisy throughout all the upstairs rooms.
