Breakfast was included and the daily rate was unbelievably low. The staff were lovely, and they moved us to a different room when we asked. Still, there were some downsides: the carpets weren’t very clean, the walls felt thin, and the bathrooms were tiny. Our room was spacious and had a TV and chimney. The location was good and the price very competitive. I think it’s a good choice for a night or two at most.

The grounds are lovely, but the rest of the place was disappointing. The main entrance seems to be where the money went, while the rooms are very dated and basic. The en suite wasn’t the cleanest either. Service was very slow: we waited nearly an hour for our meals, along with another couple. Breakfast was cold and lacking. We’d finished eating before two sausages arrived, 15 minutes later. There was nobody at the desk when we left to check out, so I was told to leave the key. I emailed about my issues and am still waiting for an itemised invoice. Since I hadn’t raised the problems before leaving, they didn’t seem particularly bothered.

The value was awful, the worst I’ve had for a hotel room. I arrived before 11pm on Saturday and couldn’t get a drink at the bar or in my room, even after asking. All the pubs in town were closed too. The room looked dated, with stained paintwork and faded old pictures. There was mould in the bathroom and a strong, persistent damp smell. Hot water took minutes to come through, reception didn’t answer my call, and the car charger wasn’t working. There were no chargers or plugs by the bed, and just one decaf sachet in a double room.

We saw deer, rabbits, pheasants, and owls during our stay. It’s a fantastic place for nature. The hotel is lovely and the staff are lovely too. Please try to object to more houses being built on those fields.

The venue and grounds made for amazing photos, and the setting is idyllic. We had our wedding reception here and had a brilliant time. The day went to plan, thanks to the staff who did a great job bringing everything together. The food was excellent and enjoyed by everyone, with good provision for dietary needs and the children. Our honeymoon suite was spacious, well equipped, and very comfortable. It cost more than the other rooms, but was worth the extra fee. The events team kept in touch and helped meet our needs. We had two small niggles, neither of them deal breakers. We’d hoped for a traditional outdoor Christmas tree, which wasn’t possible, but there were several indoor trees instead. The night before, only the bar food menu was available, though that food was delicious too. For larger groups, pre-book if you don’t want a long wait. Keep an eye on meal times and arrive promptly, or you may not be fed without paying an additional fee. The timings are clearly displayed. It’s a great wedding spot, and I’d recommend it to others planning this kind of wedding.
