The Fauconberg

The pub is lovely and the location is nice, but I wouldn't recommend eating there. The beef at Sunday lunch was very chewy and the meal wasn't worth the money. Most of it was left uneaten, yet the waiter didn't ask how it was.

The Sunday lunch was a real let-down for our group of six. Most of us left the beef because it was extremely tough and inedible, and the vegetables disappointed too. There was only one tiny serving to share: a sliced carrot, a few pieces of broccoli, some turnip and a little white cabbage. It wasn't enough for even one person, let alone six, and we were charged extra when we asked for more. Staff never checked how the meal was, even while clearing plates with food still on them, mostly beef. The roast potatoes were pale and soft, and needed more time in the oven to get properly crisp. It wasn't the Sunday roast we expected.

The whole Fauconberg team made us feel welcome from arrival until we left. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant and a great breakfast the next morning. Each room is different, but they were all cosy and comfortable. I stayed there in August on the night before my wedding at Newburgh Priory, and booked rooms for my groomsmen and their partners for the whole weekend. I'd definitely recommend The Fauconberg for a stay or a meal in the area. Thanks to the team for being part of our wedding!

I had the light bite of fish and chips, and it lived up to the name, so that was a bit disappointing. The meat pie looked and smelled delicious, and apparently it was. Since my portion was small, I treated myself to sticky toffee pudding, possibly the best I've ever had. The staff were friendly, pleasant and efficient, and it was a bonus that dogs are welcome.
